Exploding Stove and Car Insurance

It was one of the coldest winters they ever had in the Grandview territory. It actually froze the sand. We burned through a barrel of oil a week to try and keep the house warm. We had a hole through the wall and a pipe up for the chimney. There was a strong North wind which created a sort of vacuum across the top of the chimney, which dammed up the exhaust of the stove, causing the stove to explode. I thought I was in WWII again, it was so loud. I always say that when Mickey heard that noise, I got out of bed before Mickey got off the ceiling.

A little at a time we put up wall board, which I did myself. I had to borrow $800 from the bank on my '47 Frazer. Because of the fire on the car, the GM insurance was cancelled because they said I was accident prone (I had had two other comprehensive claims in the past). I couldn't get a loan unless I got insurance, and I had to find someone who would help me. I found the Kaiser dealer in Sunnyside who would sell me a policy which I could present to the bank to get the loan.
