Weevils and Cornmeal

Three or four of our calves got lost in the woods. They got further and further away from the farm. John and I went on foot, looking for them way up into the woods. We found them and brought them back. We were absolutely starved. I think back in those days I was already diabetic, and I was probably having a low sugar situation. No one else was home, but we knew how to cook corn meal. We boiled some water and cooked it up and ate ravenously, and then we found weevils in the cornmeal. After we ate it!! But you know, we were hungry.
